After just one and a half months of focused training, INTI International College Subang (IICS) students Ting Ming Jie and Wong Holjhen earned the bronze medal at the Inter-University Badminton Tournament – Unity in Motion 2.0 on 2 August 2025.
The Bachelor of Arts (Marketing) students from the University of Hertfordshire programme at IICS were among 20 teams from private and public universities across Malaysia. “The competition was intense, with many strong players from across various states,” said Ting Ming Jie, also known as Jamie.

The high-level tournament gathered some of the country’s top young badminton players. For Jamie and Holjhen, the result was especially significant as they had only been playing doubles together for about six months. “Our partnership began during friendly matches organised by our badminton club, and we quickly discovered great chemistry and complementary playing styles,” said Holjhen.
Jamie added, “I admire Holjhen’s calm mindset and sharp net play. He stays composed under pressure and always motivates me on court.”
The short preparation period brought challenges. “Fatigue from back-to-back matches and staying mentally focused were tough. We also had to adapt quickly to opponents’ different strategies,” Jamie said. Balancing training with their studies further tested their time management skills.
The badminton duo celebrates their bronze medal win after defeating Monash University in straight sets during the placement match.
In the bronze medal match, the pair defeated Sunway University in straight sets. “It means a lot—it reflects our teamwork, dedication, and growth. As a team, it gives us confidence to aim even higher in the future,” they said together. They credited their success to support from the Student Services Department and their Badminton Club, which encouraged them to push themselves further.
They plan to continue competing as a pair. “We’re aiming for upcoming public tournaments and hope to compete at state-level opens if given the chance,” said Holjhen.
Their achievement adds to INTI’s track record of supporting student-athletes in excelling both academically and in competitive sports.
